A Destructive Fire at East Greenwich 1894

October 1894
About two o’clock on Sunday morning a fire occurred at Piper’s Wharfs on the riverbank at East Greenwich, the premises of Mr. J.RE.Piper barge builder. The fire broke out in the large corrugated iron building of one floor used as workshops, engine rooms and stores and the mischief spread to a second building of smaller size also used as workshops. Both were completely destroyed and a third building was much damaged by fire and water. The cause of the fire is unknown.
